Baptism

According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church, Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life.  It is for this reason that we begin the initiation process with an evening of preparation for expectant parents.  We recommend that you call the Pastoral Center four months before the arrival of your baby.  The sessions are held in the home of a sponsor couple, and the sessions are usually in the evening, between Monday and Thursday, according to the sponsor couple's schedule.  You will learn everything you need to know to prepare for your child's Baptism.

Confirmation

The Sacrament of Confirmation is celebrated during the third grade year at Mother of Sorrows.  Those who are in third grade are catechetically prepared in either the school, religious education program, or Catechesis of the Good Shepherd during a two-year period.

During the course of the second year, parents are required to attend a series of parent meetings, and they and their children participate in retreats (workshops) on weekends, up to the time of the reception of sacraments.

Children older than third grade, and who move into the parish and have not as yet been confirmed, need to notify the parish office of this need.  Older children are confirmed on Pentecost Sunday, a short time after the third graders have received Confirmation and Eucharist during the Easter Season.

Adults who have not as yet been confirmed, but who are practicing Catholics, may also be confirmed at Pentecost if certain criteria have been met.  Please call the Pastoral Center for further information.

Eucharist

Holy Eucharist is "the source and summit of all ecclesial life" according to the teachings of the church.  It completes Christian Initiation, and is celebrated in the second grade at Reconciliation.

If your child has special needs, please feel free to call and inform us of them.  We are more than willing to make accommodations to meet his/her needs.

Marriage

Marriage has been raised to the dignity of a sacrament, and is a covenant between man and woman.  Those who are seeking a sacramental marriage need to begin their journey as soon as they become engaged.  Contact the parish office immediately as to the date of your wedding, and we will be happy to begin the process.
