What does it do?
Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen said the mission of the Legion of Mary is to help keep the Church holy. It seeks to raise the spiritual level of its members and the community through a balanced program of prayer and action. Members meet regularly for prayer and discussion. They spend a couple of hours each week doing a definite work. Works include community projects, hospital visitation, youth work, religious education, convert work, and other spiritual works. Assigned work is done in pairs and geared to the capabilities of the individuals.
Who can belong?
Any Catholic -- young, not so young, married, single -- who is willing to work for Our Lady is most welcome to give it a try. The Legion has a three-month adjustment period so YOU can see how work and family obligations mesh with the tried and proven format of the Legion system. Experience has shown that in every parish there is a nucleus of people called, it seems, to be sanctified in this unique way.
What do I get if I join?
You get an opportunity to become a better Catholic, to mobilize the Catholic laity, and to raise the spiritual level of the entire community through direct contact with and interest in every member and potential member of the Mystical Body of Christ. You will learn more about your Catholic faith, experience increased spiritual growth, and enjoy developing new friendships with fellow Legionaries.
What must I give to get all this?
You need to sacrifice some of your free time; give a few of the 168 hours God gives you each week. There are no dues. You don't need special skills or extraordinary talent. You only have to follow the rules, and God will use you as He finds you.

Types of Membership
There are Active members and auxiliary (praying) members. Active members must attend a weekly meeting and perform weekly work of at least two hours. Auxiliary members supply prayer power which is needed for the active works of the Legion and do NOT attend meetings or works.
| How do I start?
Attend a meeting! Come as a guest and see the Legion of Mary in action.
The Catechism of the Catholic Church states: "Since lay Christians are entrusted by God with the apostolate by virtue of their Baptism and Confirmation, they have the right and duty, individually or grouped in associations, to work so that the Divine message of salvation may be known and accepted by all men throughout the earth."
